LGBTQ Awareness Days at UNF

Hello UNF LGBT Resource Center Community and Friends – Please join us all this week for LGBTQ Awareness Days, the biggest week of events in 2011. Of particular importance and timeliness, please join us at “Bullied” on Tuesday, January 25, 7 p.m. in the Robinson Theatre for an important film screening and discussion on anti-LGBT bullying and harassment in educational settings. More information on all of the week’s events is below and attached. All events are open to the entire community, including students, faculty, staff, alumni and Jacksonville community.

“Gay? Fine by Me”
Tues., Jan. 25, 11am-2pm

The “Gay? Fine by Me” T-shirt campaign returns to bring visibility to allies of the LGBT community. The campaign has distributed more than 1,200 T-shirts to campus supporters in the past three years. This year the UNG LGBTRC will be giving out more than 450 shirts to students, faculty and staff.

“Bullied” Documentary
Tues., Jan 25, 6pm,
Robinson Theatre

“Bullied” is a documentary film that chronicles one student’s ordeal at the hands of anti-gay bullies, offering an inspiring message of hope to those fighting harassment today. The UNF LGBTRC will have a question-and-answer segment following the documentary.

“Queers in the Spotlight”

Living with Pride is a discussion series on healthy living for the LGBT and ally communities. This week, the topic will be “Queers in the Spotlight” to discuss media portrayals of LGBT people.

“Out in the Workplace"

LGBT employees face a different set of challenges when it comes to being ‘out’ in the workplace. The choice to ‘come out’ or to ‘live openly’ about their sexuality or gender orientation can pose risks of safety, discrimination and job security. A panel of LGBT professional in Jacksonville will speak with students about career and professional concerns as well as their personal experiences of being ‘out’ in the workplace. This event is sponsored by UNF Career Services and the UNG LGBTRC.
