SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE Tour 2014 shimmied its way into Jax on Thursday to a packed house. The diverse audience of women, men (more than I anticipated seeing), and teens and tweens was clearly made up of die hard fans of the hit TV show and not just season ticket holder out just to see whatever show was on stage. These were true fans out for the live experience and the excitement in the air was palpable. As an avid viewer of the show, there were plenty of familiar dances seen on the series that were thrilling to see live, but also a nice balance of new acts peppered in to keep it fresh for long time fans like myself. Much like the show the acts varied from Broadway, tap, jazz, and classic choreography along side the more modern edge moves all of which complimented one another with seamless non-stop set transitions from one number to the next. 

Season 11 winner Ricky Ubeda lived up to every expectation along with surprisingly good performances by Jessica Richens and Marcquet Hill. Fan favorite Rudy Abreu showed a notable improvement from his time on the show to the live stage. But the standout performance of the night was from Tanisha Belnap. I underestimated her talents just from watching the show. Live she was a beast on stage that I could not take my eyes off of. Regardless if you are a fan or a newb to the show, SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE live had all the right moves for an exciting night out.

Classic Trek sets in Kingsland, GA. open to the public on Dec. 6 & 7 Farragut Fest open house

Journey to the future Classic Trek-style as Farragut Films hosts Farragut Fest from 9 a.m. to 5p.m. Saturday Dec. 6 and 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Sunday Dec 7at its 10,000-sq.ft. film production studio at 516 W. William Ave. in Kingsland Ga., the largest display of freestanding “Classic Trek” sets in the U.S.

The open house includes the detailed sets built by dedicated fans to duplicate the interior of the USS Farragut, a sister ship to the Capt. Kirk-era Enterprise from the classic series of the 1960s. Used to film episodes of the “Starship Farragut” and other internet series. The sets include the bridge, transporter room, briefing room, sickbay, captain’s and guest quarters, Romulan bridge, and an extensive corridor system. All were done by the non-profit Farragut Films project by unpaid volunteers, and the films are viewable for free on www.starshipfarragut.com.

Cast members will be on site at Farragut Fest, along with artist Kail Tescar. Dealers will be on site with sci-fi items for sale. Fans in costumes will be on set along with detailed film props. Ticket prices are $10 for adults, $5 for teens (13-17), and free for kids 12 and under. Tickets are good for both days of Farragut Fest.
